Brighu Lake is a lake situated at an altitude of around (14,100 ft) in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, India. It is located to the east of Rohtang Pass and is around 6 kilometres (3.7 mi) from Gulaba village. It can be reached by trekking  from the Vashishth temple, which is well-known for its hot water springs, which is close to the town of Manali or from Gulaba village. in fact there is no settlement in Gulaba and is actually an area of the Pir Panjal mountain range. It is named after Maharishi Bhrigu.Legend has it that the perceptive used to meditate near the lake and hence it has been rendered sacred, the locals believe that due to this the lake never freezes completely. This lake is held sacred to the sage, Brighu Rishi, a great saint of Indian history.

Day 1;Arrive in Manali. Drive to Gulaba (22Kms). Trek to Gulaba Campsite

Reach Main Govt. Bus Stand in Manali . From here we drive to Gulaba which would take close to one hour. However the road can be busy on weekends as the same road is taken by tourists heading to Rohtang Pass. A short trek of about half an hour brings us to our campsite for the day. Overnight stay in tents.

Day 2 : Trek from Gulaba to Rola Kholi (12,500 feet approx.), – 7 km, 4 to 5 hour trek

Hike though the forest and meadows with Manali and Solang Valley in the background. Some of the famous peaks in view are Mt. Hanuman Tibba and the Seven Sister peaks seated in Beas Kund Valley. Carry enough water in your bottle as there are very limited/no source (depending on the season) of water before Kolang Nallah. After 3-4 hours of hike we will reach the Kolang Nallah. There is a improvised wooden bridge on this Nallah for most of the months. After cross the bridge, hike for another 1.5 to 2 hours to reach Rola Kholi, our campsite for the day. Rola Kholi is covered by mountains on 3 sides which defend it from harsh winds. Rola Kholi is an ideal campsite also because the water stream flows very close to the camping site.

Day 3 : Rola Kholi to Pandu Ropa (11,800 feet approx.) via Bhrigu Lake (14,000 feet approx.) – 14 km, 7 to 8 hour trek.

We start early in the morning as the trail today is long and steep one. As we trek to the lake ,the trail changes colour from green to brown and to white (in winters). The participants are requested to be extra careful today because the trail is through boulders and scree. Once we reach the lake, the view is breath taking because of the frozen lake (frozen almost in all months). If you happen to visit the lake during summer, you will find grass and tiny alpine flowers nearby the lake. After spending sometime at the lake, we head to Pandu Ropa. The walk through the rice fields is like a breath of fresh air. Overnight stay in tents at Pandu Ropa.

*Please note, in case of excessive snow we will not descend towards Vashisht but move to Gulaba only.

Day 4 : Pandu Ropa to Vashisht (6800 feet) – 8 km, 4 hour trek.

Today we trek from Pandu Ropa to Vashisht. The trail is well defined and in most sections downward, which will be easy on your lungs but difficult on your feet. The downhill sections are quite steep and slippery . On your way back you can find trekkers who have started the trek from the other side. Their anxiety and enthusiasm will leave you feeling nostalgic. The last section of the trail is through apple orchards. desist from plucking apples without the permission of the owners of the orchards. We will reach Vashisht, the hot sulphur water spring . The trip ends here. If you wish to, take a dip in the spring. Hire an auto rickshaw or taxi from here to Manali which is approximately a few  kilometre away.
